A small treasure
- In 2005, this book was first published in Erein House, by Patxi Zubizarreta and the company. After several years of exhaustion, it has just been edited by the editorial Elkar and made available to readers this interesting and recommendable work.
He who approaches the book will soon see that this is a curious work. Outside the collections, with hard lid, 2 CD inside and with many images of Jokin Mitxelena. But soon you can detect these characteristics or paratextos and that loose pieces interspersed appear in the text. And that's exactly the structure of this book. Within a history several popular songs, stories, excursions… getting a whole.
Kattalin, Nicolas and Madalen travel with their parents to Graziosen for Christmas, where they meet with their grandfather and he teaches them the surroundings, and taking advantage that he is on the donkey, Aita and Semeak tell them a story about the donkey; later, when the grandmother appears, she hugs her grandchildren and sings a song to each one: Small Kattalin, the little Saint Nicholas and Our Lady. Grandchildren and granddaughters will play and, depending on the situation or the moment they live, they will tell you a story, a song, a story or an exit. Not only to them, but in the CDs that accompany the book are recorded a large part of them and it is possible to hear them from the hand of renowned Basque artists (Mari Karmen Odriozola, Martín Tejeria, Joxe Arratibel, Jose Ignazio Ansorena…); some of them also sing songs from the book with Olatz Oiart. A luxury for our ears, even more so because all of them bring us the past into the present. One of the great values of this book, the Basque tradition, folklore, is to offer today's children in an attractive and loving way.
Zubizarreta has been able to link in a narrative thread the phrases of AMONA Mantangorri, Zezenak dira kanta or Sendagile gaztea ipuina, for example, one after the other, putting the reader in the salons in terms of gender, style or theme.
This book is a treasure that can be read or tasted progressively, either at home or at school, either individually or in groups, but in one way or another it will be for the reader’s enjoyment. And if I had it and I didn't...
