Alberto Bocos was in London in 1976 and since then he has been immersed in punk, next to Jabi Saies: bringing records from abroad; making a melodic hardcore in the band Impossible to Be; intervening in magazines, fantzines and/or radio stations; and in charge of the record store Musica Autonoma. Bocos has made the DVD together with José Antonio Alfonso, from Zaragoza, who was involved in the Zambombo operating association that brought foreign bands.

You’ve taken punk and hardcore together as threads. Are these two styles indivisible?

They can be divided, but they are the two most important forgotten styles within the pop of the Spanish State; and they have a very strong connection between them. On the other hand, there are several bands that, although they are called punk, can also be included in hardcore music styles: for example, RIP or Espasmodicos.

You have limited the history of punk and hardcore from 1980 to 1990. Why right there?

Things start to get worse after 1990... There are some interesting groups and good ideas but... it’s not the same. At that time the crossover began mixing metal and hardcore, and the initial essence was lost.

What unites all the documentary teams is a denial of the system, isn't it?

At the time, we didn’t accept what we were told. Nowadays people protest a lot, but it is very difficult to distinguish... Anyone can put the crest or the rastas, but it is no longer personal. We used to make our own t-shirts, badges, concerts; we gave more value to records... nowadays, they can be bought anywhere. We didn’t accept what they told us, but we built it.

Are the bands from the 80s too mythical or was it great what was done then?

Nothing else has emerged since the late 1980s that has had such strength. Hip-hop was strong for a while; heaven continues in a similar way; the new metal has weakened, as well as the melodic hardcore. Today’s teams don’t get that kind of connection or that kind of emotion...

You put RIP on the cover of the DVD. For what reason?

We had serious doubts at first. But after reviewing the recordings we realized that almost all the bands admire RIP and Jabi Saies, even the Mondragón band is considered by most of the most important punk-hardcore bands in the Spanish state, as well as José Antonio and myself.

Are the protagonists of the story you have received aware of the importance of what they did?

Most of them are very happy with what they have done and lived, but do not believe that their work has had such an impact. The most obvious example of humility is that of the RIP, who still hardly believe that they have been exemplary. On the other hand, all the musicians have taken the initiative very well, they have been delighted.

You have only taken four areas of the Spanish State, and in the chapter of the Basque Country, although it is the longest, the teams of Bizkaia and Navarre are missing, among others...

Yeah, that's right. We know a lot of people have been left out, but we almost overflowed with all the material we got. We have completed 4 and a half hours of work and we have had to leave a lot of things out. Our intention is to do a second work soon with significant bands and musicians who have been left out. In addition, we plan to include more live images of the groups.
