Working with Wikipedia, Working with learning situations at school
The learning situation, according to Wikipedia, is a pedagogical initiative that is carried out through organized educational resources and activities in an educational environment. In fact, the Basque Wikimedians Cultural Association (EWKE), the promoter of Wikipedia in Basque, has a program in place to work on Wikipedia in learning situations:It's on Wikia.
EWKE has developed this program with the support of the Talaios cooperative and with the advice of HUHEZI of Mondragon University. Four models have been developed and applied to various schools.
- The learning situation of cultivating the diversity of the geography of the classroom in Wikipedia is usable in ESO 1, with the aim of welcoming students from different backgrounds who come to the classroom and, together, cultivating interculturality and Basque.
- Bringing Women to Wikipedia: It is an exercise adapted to the students of ESO 3-4, created to make biographies of women in Wikipedia or Infantil and to act on the gender gap.
- Documenting the plants of the area: For ESO 4 students, it is a proposal to better understand plant blindness and ecosystems, and to identify, classify and make short videos about plants with free technologies.
- The buildings of our country: To work on ESO 3, it is a proposal to understand, document and explain through photography how to improve the built heritage of our country. An innovative proposal to unite artistic expression, languages and history.
Other learning centers will soon be developed, and they are open to application in more centers. The developed models are explained there in the links above (curricular explanations, explanation of competences, rubrics and additional material).
