The waves damage the trenches of 1936 on Eibar Mount Akondia
- According to the Ahaztuak Oromena association, the waves of the area have affected the remains of the trenches that were part of the 1936 front. The information panel of the City of Eibar has also been located with traces of gender violence.
Located in the Kalamua Mountains, the mountain known as Akondia or Arrikurutz witnessed the bloody battles of the forefront, which became a strategic place for Republicans in the winter of 1936 and 1937. For months, these trenches resisted the fascist offensive and, as a result, the government of José Antonio Agirre was organized. The corpses of many of the Gudaris and militiamen who died there are located in the cemetery of Olaso in Elgoibar, next to the Columbario of Dignity collected by the Basque Government.
You can still see traces of large pits and war bunkers on the slopes and forests of Akondia. But this historical and archaeological heritage has been damaged by the repopulation works that have been carried out, according to the Ahaztuak Oromena association, which works in Markinaldea to recover its historical memory.
