"We are good and friendly doctors!"
- Once again, the students spoke loudly at the graduation ceremony of Medicine of the UPV/EHU. In addition to the proclamation of studies in Basque, they denounce the mistreatment that students often receive during their internships and the machismo that women have to endure (video at the end of the news).
Ane Negueruela, from Lazkao, spoke on behalf of the rest of the students. The criticism comes after thanking all those who have helped them in their studies, mentioning those who “treated us like furniture in the hospital” during their internship, emphasizing that it has been “often painful”.
“We are good doctors,” Negueruela said. In terms of language, however, “in Vitoria there is nothing to celebrate, when it is good in Bizkaia and when it is not there to solve it, and in San Sebastian we have to continue sowing it to harvest it”. The students of Physical Therapy and Dentistry also complained about the difficulties that exist to carry out their studies in Basque.
The student also lists other “wounds and shortcomings.” For example, she points out that although women are the majority in medicine, they feel they are a minority, with questions such as “where is the doctor?”
