The Pamplona Anti-Phobia Observatory concludes that awareness has “increased”
- The Harrotu Service has published the report of the Anti-Phobic Observatory of the City of Pamplona, with 34 attacks in one year, eight more than last year. The Observatory believes that it can be because the service is becoming increasingly known.
The Anti-Phobic Observatory of the City of Pamplona was born in 2021 to perform an X-ray of LGBTBIphobia and take appropriate measures to the needs. To this end, the Centre has registered the source of aggression received in Pamplona and has produced a report. According to the report, from August 2022 to July 2023 they received 34, eight more than last year.
Although recorded attacks have increased by 30%, according to the observatory this does not mean that the number of attacks has increased. According to the Observatory, the increase may be due to the “greater” awareness of the issue and the “growing popularity” of the service: “As symbolic violence has grown by 109%, it can be concluded that citizens are becoming more and more aware of LGBTBIphobia and therefore feel cited and responsible for these attitudes, behaviors and hate crimes.”
Most of the attacks recorded have been symbolic and oral, with 36% and 22% respectively. Regarding the symbolic ones, the majority were transfobos and “many” referred to International Women’s Day. Other attacks, on the other hand, were messages from Christian communities which, like last year, have a religious character.

This year, 44% of the reported events have been face-to-face: “This highlights the importance of having a direct care service, open to the public, with specialized staff, that provides resources to make it a safe and reliable place to go in difficult situations.”
Finally, the observatory has made recommendations for Pamplona to be a space for socialization and coexistence, such as the “necessary” intersectionality, the need to “reinforce” the mechanisms of denunciation and support, the need to continue conducting campaigns against the LGTBIfobai and the “truthful” information of data and studies on dissident personal genres.
