Thirty years ago Gaztelupe was not Arizmendi Ikastola, it was called San Viator, and it was managed by the religious order of the viatorists. One of the teachers at the time was José Ángel Arregi Eraña (Bilbao, 1957), who began teaching at the Mondragón school in 1979. This religious man taught gymnastics and religion lessons, and now for about 30 years he was the tutor of a class of 40 students.

One of the people in that room is R.N. We have the Arrasateano, who studied in the 7th to 8th course of the OHO. As he and some former students of this class Mondraberri.eus denounced to the newspaper, Arregi abused his power from day one: "On the first day of school, he wanted to teach us a lesson so that we would respect the school facilities: He asked for a volunteer among the students. No one raised their hand at first, but eventually someone gave up. Arregi gave him 10 blows, one after the other, to establish his discipline."

In fact, his students emphasize above all the character and "violent" behavior of Arregi. Then began the bitter lessons for these children: "Another day he lowered the fractures to one of us in front of the whole room."

They also taught gymnastics to Arregi, who played them with sexual touches: "Sometimes he would come into the showers while we were showering, and he would applaud us on our buttocks." The gym witnessed the following abuses: "He put another one of us in a dark room at the gym, and after spending some time inside, he went out crying. We never knew what he did to her." When it comes to sexual abuse, he did it one by one of the most serious: "Arregi once ordered the students to go through the gym one by one. So every student inside the gym had to be alone with Arregi for a while."

At that time "Arregi made each of us put our pants down, saying that it was a study that had to do with the formation of the body. In addition, Arregi ordered us to show him our penises and butts better." Another day he took the children to the laboratory in San Viator, where he told us to "look at the sperm with the microscope." “When you’re a kid you don’t realize what that means, we realized that they were strange things, but we didn’t consider them as sexual abuse.” For this reason "one of the children explained to his parents what had happened, and the parents filed a complaint to the school. But the Viatorists did not take the proper precautions." As the years went by, "and when we talked to our former classmates, we became aware of the situation and it made us angry."

In 2009 Arregi was arrested in Chile for possession of a large amount of child pornography: She had thousands of photos and videos showing sadomasochism, coprofiling, urophilia and sexual activities with babies. In addition to this material purchased or shared by Arregi, he also had videos recorded by himself: The images recorded in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Basauri and Madrid show touches, masturbations to minors, physical attacks and penetrations with objects.A Chilean court sentenced Arregi to two years in prison in 2010, and in the South American country these sentences are carried out in full.

Once the verdict was known, the Congregation of Viatorists began the process of expelling Arregi from the congregation. It was then foreseen that Arregi could be extradited to the Spanish state to be tried, among other things, for crimes committed in Mondragón. To this end, several victims filed a judicial complaint and "a victim of Mondragón also filed a judicial complaint", but after a long time, these crimes are subject to a statute of limitations and therefore cannot be prosecuted.

R.N. is now 43 years old and it is clear that the law needs a change in this sense: “Such crimes should not be subject to statute of limitations or similar, such as crimes of violence against women, so that justice can be done.”
