Donald Trump's candidacy for the Nobel Peace Prize
- U.S. President Donald Trump has been confirmed as a candidate for Nobel Peace. Two Conservative MEPs from the Norwegian Parliament have submitted their candidature and Trump will compete with 303 other candidates.
Amundsen’s deputy, Per-Willy, one of the authors of the proposal, explained to Reuters that he has been appointed for his work in the conflict between North Korea and South Korea, which was also the country’s minister of justice.
The rumor that Trump could be nominated for this prize had been in the media for some time and several sources speculated with the proposal of Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
The other MEPs who proposed Trump as a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize, Christian Tybring-Gjedd, has clarified that the prize that Trump can receive depends on the disarmament agreement between the two Koreas.
The presidents of the United States have previously been the winners of the Nobel Peace Prize, such as Jimmy Carter or Barack Obama, among others. In the case of the latter, after winning the award in 2009, he prepared the largest military budget in American history.
