Role of companies
First, the need to have a greater impact on social, economic, cultural and human activity is not present in the debate. Second: It is widely assumed that the degree of satisfaction we get at work is relatively low for many.
Because from these two convictions, through these lines you want to put on the table that the activation of a “new” actor (company) to bring us closer to those goals can be important. But in order to do so, economic institutions must flee the barriers of stereotypes and begin to deal with the social and human sphere. Inside and outside the company, they can assume a new, more integral role, and thus, besides being a profitable economic agent, they can become one of the main social and human actors. It's an extraordinary thing in its entirety, but as unthinkable as it is powerful.
Let us remember that the main feature of companies is to make money, and it will, of course, happen. It is well known that many companies that do not want change will remain the same. However, and in a way, to prove that what we're saying is possible, let's say that there are real, living business experiences that were originally breaking in this field. And that weak economic conception was overcome. For example, in the social commitment, in the ownership of the company or in the participation we demonstrate it. In fact, the fact that the company's objective is more complete and human gives a much greater sense to a purely economic project and, in addition, a large cylinder engine is turned on to revitalize the community.
If we think without prejudice or fear, we will realize that companies can have more potential than any other organisation to develop certain areas. Platforms can be very efficient, as they include people, media, management capacity, time and sensitivity.
It should also be noted that the main strategy in this direction would be: “Transform the company itself as a tractor of the transformation of the environment”. In other words, the new objectives proposed should be developed both within and outside the company. Because in these two spaces, the transformation process is going to take place jointly.
Before concluding, let us briefly specify, although it will be quite clear, some of the new areas that we can bring to the framework of work: cooperation, internal democracy, social justice, the south, Basque culture, the environment, entrepreneurship, education.
