Attack on the defence of human rights
- On January 10, thousands of people filled with light the two kilometers that separated the Bilbao City Hall from La Caja, under the motto “Now Euskal Herrira!”. The Sare Association called on all citizens to work in the defence of human rights and against dispersion. On Monday morning, the Civil Guard arrested 12 Basque prisoners’ lawyers and 4 members of the Herrira association. One of the conclusions was the suspension of the defence of 35 members of the Abertzale left (trial suspended), convicted of a crime of murder.
8 January 2014. In Euskal Herria everything is prepared for the demonstration that is held every January in defence of the rights of Basque prisoners, but once again there will be no lack of intervention in Madrid and has arrested eight interlocutors. In addition, the National Hearing has banned the demonstration. The PNV has also joined the demonstration through prohibition and mobilization has been one of the largest in Euskal Herria. That seems to be the objective: to stop and hinder the dialogue between all lawyers and citizens who are in the defence or mediation of Basque prisoners. Obstruct anything that could feed that almost invisible peace process from here or from there. They are all ethnic groups, “everything is ETA.” And in the Spanish Government everything is against the revenge, the peace and the coexistence that Basque society demands time and time again.
Basically, the government of pp makes it clear that what Basque society thinks does not matter; and what the Basque Government, the Parliament and the other Basque institutions say. To put it bluntly, I prayed all over my head. And also in truffle tone: last year before and after the demonstration, “we don’t care.” It is difficult to make another reading other than revenge, because in other times the Basque question gave them incomes in Spain, but today neither. It seems, however, and even more so after the demonstration in Paris on Sunday, that it is always profitable for terrorists to show here too that they have no refuge.
Key? Converge once and for all those who want to commit themselves to a genuine peace process in Basque society and begin to build serious inequalities, peace and coexistence. Forget a moment of Madrid and act here, because otherwise Madrid will not move either. From EH Bildu and to the PSE, or to Podemos, where the polls are leading, and among which the assets should be, the PNV and the Basque Government. Pp prefers to mix Euskal Herria, because that prevents everything, but Basque society has the right and the desire to live a new time. There will only be a drop from the sky, and it is up to the Basque institutions and citizens to fight for it.
