The Spanish National Police has dismantled two criminal organizations dedicated to crossing migrants from Gipuzkoa to Lapurdi, according to the news portal elDiario.es. Each of them was charged around 200 euros to help him cross the border. In recent years, however, the French police have set up various controls and carried out irregular procedures such as 'hot returns', despite the fact that this is a step from the Schengen area. According to police information, there are 15 detainees and hundreds of migrants who have suffered some kind of violence in Gaza.
The operation has been declared "Baztan", as the investigation began in the Navarre region, with the arrest of a person who was caught irregularly. However, there has been a presence of mafias on the administrative border between Irun and Hendaia for years. The National Police has observed that "migrants reached different points on the Spanish coast" and that before leaving Morocco these mafias "were surprised with promises of being transferred to the Spanish State in exchange for amounts close to 200 euros".
The research has shown that these organizations not only operated in Irun-Hendaia, but also in nearby cities such as Bilbao, where intervention was common in cross-border night itineraries at the bus station, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Donostia-San Sebastián, Navarra or Madrid. "There were support staff receiving immigrants and providing them with train and bus tickets to travel to Irun and Hendaia," he said. There, at the border, controls by the French National Police "facilitated" crossing and evasion. One group chose the steps of the cars and the other the public transports that were going to Baiona. There, the organization was trying to get tickets to other places in France or Europe.
In total, there are fifteen detainees in the police operation against Segi. According to the National Police, the two leaders of the groups have been arrested and 13 others have been arrested in Madrid. The arrests took place in Bilbao (6), Vitoria-Gasteiz (3), Madrid (3), Irun (2) and Lleida (1). Agents have also seized EUR 3,000 in cash, a vehicle, 24 mobiles and various computer equipment and various documentation that has also been provided.
