New discharge in the Nervión river near the industrial estate of the Markijana district in Ayala. On 29 October they appeared in their bisa waters and dead fish, as well as dead birds.
Neighbours have told Aiaraldea Komunikabideak that the discharge was spectacular. The neighbors were the ones who alerted and denounced the URA agency.
The Ertzaintza Environmental Department has initiated a study to clarify the characteristics of the spillage. More information in the coming weeks.
The Provincial Council of Álava has already taken samples of dead fish and removed dead animals. For its part, the Water Agency has sent inspectors to the area who have taken samples of the spillage for their investigation.
More discharges
In recent years there have been many discharges into the Nervión River. A few years ago thousands of fish died in Areta. That same year, in Amurrio there were also deaths from another spill. According to the data, more than 8,000 were dead fish.
The URA Agency has imposed sanctions on Aiala Cristal, Aceralava and the Town Hall of Llodio from 2017 to the present for anomalous discharges. The companies Amurrio Tren y Equipo, Tubacex, Castinox, Jez, Nubiola and Guardian have also received requirements from the Agency for the discharge of pollutants into the river.
