Hamas “analyzes” the ceasefire agreement proposed by the United States
- Hamas denounces that the proposal will ensure that “killings and famine” continue, but adds that it is considering what response. The United States reports that Israel has accepted the proposal.
The proposal for a ceasefire includes a 60-day truce, which can be extended to 70 days, and the release of 28 hostages – ten alive and eighteen dead – according to some sources. In return, Israel should release hundreds of prisoners and Palestinians. For the United States to make the proposal, it had received Israeli approval, according to the United States, while Hamas has declared that it is considering the proposal “responsibly” and denounces that it does not comply with its demands: “The new proposal involves the continuation of murders and famine and does not include any of our demands, especially when it comes to ending the war.”
Steve Witkoff, the U.S. envoy to the Middle East, presented the proposal to Israel and Hamas. In addition to the points mentioned above, the proposal foresees the possibility of negotiating a permanent ceasefire and the withdrawal of Israeli troops, but it does not propose an immediate end to the Israeli attacks; this point does not coincide with the demands of Hamas, which has demanded an immediate halt to the attacks. In addition, the proposed agreement includes the resumption of the immediate distribution of humanitarian assistance.
The chaos of humanitarian aid
Humanitarian aid has been in the news this week. Access to all humanitarian assistance in Gaza has been closed for two months. On the contrary, in recent weeks, Netanyahu has given the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation GHF the authority to distribute aid under the criticism of other humanitarian organizations. Tuesday’s footage has dusted internationally: three Palestinians were killed and 50 wounded by the Israeli Army during the first day of humanitarian aid delivery.
Under these circumstances, the international community has warned that the situation in Gaza is extreme: one in five young people is suffering from extreme hunger.
