The Spanish Government will make tribute to Franco a crime
- The spokeswoman for the Spanish Government, Adriana Lastra, said that the new reform of the Penal Code will punish any kind of exaltation of Franco. Until now, the ban was limited to public places, but one of the conditions of the government agreement with Podemos was that the whole should be banned.
“In democratic times, no tribute is paid to dictators and tyrants,” said Lastra, referring to the reform of the Penal Code. He has pointed out that he has not yet seen any draft, but he has anticipated that the reform will take on board the ban on labour reform. According to the prohibition, the bodies of mass graves will be exhumated and the removal of Francoist symbols from public places.
The reform of the Penal Code also includes measures such as reducing the punishments for sedition in sexual relations when there is no unequivocal consent and the use of a crime of sexual abuse in sexual relations. The latter, that of the reduction of the penalties for sedition, did not go to the program of the Socialist Party, but the first vice-president of the government, Carmen Calvo, considered that it was "essential" to achieve the category of Penal Code. This measure will directly affect Catalan political prisoners imprisoned in the State, according to government sources.
