Councillors of EH Bildu in Pamplona will not attend the reception of the Kings of Spain
- Pamplona is celebrating this year the 600th anniversary of the Union’s Privilege, so the City of Pamplona has invited the kings of Spain to the celebrations. The City Hall will receive them on Friday and EH Bildu announces it will not attend.
The Union’s Privilege is a pact that sets the city in motion. The current lands of Pamplona were also the most populated areas of Navarra before the city joined, but they were divided into three main neighborhoods: Nabarreria, San Cernin and San Nicolás, still known today areas of the Old Town of the Urban Head. The coexistence between the three was bad, the walls dominated the spaces between them and there was no lack of conflicts and conflicts until war was reached.
To address this situation, on 8 September 1423, Rey Carlos de Navarra III.ak published the joint document of the three neighborhoods, called Privilege of the Union. As a result, the City of Pamplona emerged, located in the center of the three neighborhoods, where it is currently located. The New Street was also built to unite the Burgos of San Cernin and San Nicolás.
All this is held this Friday in Pamplona and the City Council of Pamplona, which runs UPN, offers the Kings of Spain the possibility of running the day. EH Bildu has announced that its eight councillors will not attend the reception because they do not believe that the kings have the legitimacy to lead the acts to be celebrated: “First, because they are heirs to those who ended up projecting unified Pamplona as the capital of an independent European state, and second, because the Hispanic monarchy does not represent the majority of the citizens of Pamplona who consider themselves Republicans and, to a large extent, sovereign.”
For the sovereign coalition, Pamplona is very lucky to be able to celebrate the Union’s Privilege, “because it was an example of friendship that ended the years of fratricidal wars, it gave us a common identity and today, six centuries later, we are very proud of it.” They consider that the protagonist of the festival is the citizens of Pamplona and not the kings of Spain. They indicate that they will be present in the other events organized by the City of Pamplona.
