Anna Campbell, from Bilbao La Vieja, reported the eviction in a note made public by the general assembly of the free zone of Bilbao. The eviction was reportedly carried out last Tuesday, 10 September. Illegal eviction
The Assembly has stressed that, to date, there are no complaints of occupation of space. “We want to point out and denounce the role of this well-known speculator in the context of the gentrification process that the neighborhood suffers (…) It is clear that as long as we continue to speculate with the lives of the people who compose it, we will continue to denounce and fight,” they stressed.
Occupation against the neoliberal city model
The occupation of the Anna Campbell free space was notified at the end of September. As reported in their first note, they occupied the space to cope with the neoliberal and precarious city model being promoted by the authorities, choosing the occupation as a tool in the face of the gentrification and tourist processes that the city has been suffering in recent years, in order to recover spaces of people and people.
When it came to naming space, Anna Campbell was named in tribute to the Kurdish wrestler who died in 2018.
