The staff and management of the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum reach a preliminary agreement
- At the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum, the workers and management have agreed to a new agreement, according to a statement released by the ELA union. The workers declared the strike to be over and the museum will reopen on July 20.
Several agreements have been reached in this agreement. On the one hand, there will be wage increases until 2019. Then the caretaker rooms will earn 20,500 euros per year. They now have a salary of 10,500 euros.
The union explains that they will benefit from the supplement of seniority and significant improvements in working conditions. As well as measures that “will abandon labor reform.” Another meeting will take place this week between the delegation and the leadership of the workers and it is expected that the final agreement will be signed there.
The 34 employees of the Manpower Group, subcontracted by the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum, had been on strike for two months to denounce their precarious situation and demand decent working conditions. Since June 7 they had been on an indefinite strike and since then the Museum of Fine Arts was closed.
There have been protests since the strike began. The last one was the “chiringuito de la precariencia”, on July 15, where the workers spread towels and umbrellas on the front of the museum.
