In May of last year, the Court of Bayonne sentenced four members of the Ostia collective for an act of disobedience in favor of the Marienea farmlands, with a fine of 500 euros, with reversal, and with the obligation to pay damages of 5,000 euros to the company Bouygues. The promoter Bouygues appealed against the sentence to demand damages of 44,000 euros from the defendants. Now, although he has not accepted the demands of the promoter Bouygues, the penalty has been granted by the Barrio Dei de Pau: The four defendants in Ostia Colectiva will have to pay Bouygues 8,742 euros and another 2,000 euros for their lawyers’ expenses.
The verdict has been strongly denounced: "The purpose of this judicial persecution is clearly to intimidate the militants and their supporters and to discourage resistance." Ostia has created the solidarity box “so that we can collectively face the costs.”
Regarding the real estate that Bouygues is going to build in the Marienea lands of Cambo, in December 2022, several militants of Ostia carried out an act of disobedience, entering the agency of the promoter in Anglet and stained with dirt and straw the model that represents the Marienea project. The collective Ostia wants these lands to be conserved for cultivation, as well as the multitude of other structures –ELB, Lurzaindia, the position group of the City Council of Canbo, EHZ and others.
Demonstration on Saturday
The ELB, Lurzaindia and Ostia networks have extended their call to join the vegetable plantation that will take place this Saturday in Mariena. It will not be limited to planting vegetables, they have organized a program every day. At 11:00 a.m., two demonstrations will be launched from Cambo and the Sea (Lapurdi), because the integrity of the Marien lands is divided between the two villages, a political event will be held at noon, followed by a popular plantation.
Opponents of the real estate construction project claim that Marién’s land can provide “witness and quality benefits,” and this, cultivated “in an environmentally friendly manner” and “in contact with consumers.”
