On alternatives
- The young Urruñarra Txomin Poveda presented a valuable thesis on sociology in the faculty of Baiona on December 21. “There is an alternative. Expériences de la pensée radicale et de l’agir pragmatique au Pays Basque Nord” has been created under the direction of the sociologist at the University of Pau, Francis Jaureguiberry. Txomin has analyzed the experiences created by the citizens of Ipar Euskal Herria in different sectors: ikastolas and euskalgintza, eusko-a, permanent laborantxa, solidarity finance, eco-construction, short circuits and many other areas.
Why have they known this development in recent years? Why do agents get involved in these kinds of weeds? The thesis shows that these different experiences constitute a social movement in the name of a transversal logic. They are also witnessing a change in militantism: the militants are no longer linked, as before, to the guarantee and life to a model and organization. They choose the best mode of action that is of immediate and concrete use to them.
In these mobilizations, Txomin detects a type of “radical pragmatism”, constructing alternatives that the zoines have through projects and not through protest jokes. To address these hypotheses, Txomin has used the sociological intervention method that Alain Touraine created in his time. He has formed five working groups, with 43 people, and has brought together Joseba Iriondo 30 times, among others. First, the discussion of 72 hours and the transcriptions of 1,002 pages. Ant work. Conducting personal interviews not to mention. This research is the result of collaboration with the agents of the territory, something that does not happen frequently.
Promoting new reflections is the first virtue of good research. This thesis contains a question as an answer. What is the relationship between these popular alternatives and the new governance model that is currently developing in the territory? To what extent have these alternatives been created and driven by the zombies that are now entering local governance institutions, so that they can use all the instruments of social transformation? Is the relationship between these alternative movements and the State no more than twice as much as we believe in the French: Against the centralist and violent state yes, but also against the regulatory state, especially on environmental, heritage or construction issues.
Finally, the thesis opens up very interesting reflections on the internal debates of the alternatives, radicalism and pragmatism that always put into tension. That is to say, a fundamental contribution, both to Basque society and to social science. And it has been presented in special conditions, with the virus in the canyoning in the closed streets of Baiona... Perhaps it is an article and/or a book that comes out of this work.
