Trade union in Navarre: Expanding ELA and LAB to the detriment of CCOO and UGT
- According to June data, the branches of the Spanish trade unions do not reach the 50% representation. LAB has surpassed the 15% barrier for the first time in history.
There was a significant change in the political map of Navarre last year, a trend that is gradually spreading to the trade union industry. For example, some actors are gaining weight in the labor relations scenario. This is the case of the LAB, which has increased from 4.5% representation in 1982 to 15.08%. Diario de Noticias has published that it is the union with the highest percentage growth in the last year, with 890 delegates.
In a more relaxed way, but ELA is also on its way up. After remaining between 21 and 22 per cent between 2005 and 2015, the representation of the nationalist trade union increased by 0.5 per cent in the last six months. The increase that began in 2013 increased the number of affiliates by 1.2%.
“We are the main alternative to UGT and CCOO in companies,” say ELA members. What has been said has the essence: With 1,314 delegates, the union is getting closer and closer to becoming the second strongest in Navarre: It has a CCOO of 1.6%.
The UGT and CCOO make up the other side of the coin. The branches of the Spanish trade unions have the lowest representation in the last 27 years: between the two they do not reach 50%. Six years ago, the sum of the two was 55.6% of the total trade union industry in Navarre. Today it is 49.6%.
UGT sources have determined that the impact of the crisis is to blame for the decline: “The one with the most delegates is usually the one with the greatest loss.” The UGT and CCOO have 1,521 and 1,410 delegates, respectively.
