In Orbaitzeta, in the Aezkoa valley, the building where weapons were produced has become, on the initiative of the citizens, a palace of cultural initiatives, promoted by the General Board of Aezkoa and attached to the Four Valleys of Irati, Aezkoa, Salazar, Garazi and Zuberoa.
Patxi Gaztelumendi has been one of the drivers, and as he told Irati Irratia, the goal is to make it a "millstone function": "It will be a mill that will move both creation and culture and heritage... Show and transform to the service of the people."
The palace, located at the entrance of the Irati Jungle, consists of four floors: below is the reception area, which also serves as a refuge for the mountaineers, with cafeteria, and in the three upper floors there are two exhibitions. One of them has popularized the activity of the old Arma Ola, in three-dimensional format, and the other shows the work of the Irati forest, in which it explains how they worked and brought wood in their day, work with tiles, history and several stories. Cultural initiatives will take place on the last floor.
Open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00 hours.
