Six concerts, two DJs and the performance of a videographer have been prepared for this Saturday in Zarautz. As for the concerts, the poster offers everything: The dance and experimental noise of the Bilbao group Grutal; the melodic and noisy pop-punk of the Getarians Oki Moki; the post-punk of the Bilbao Serpients who are about to release the album; the noise-pop of Cecilia Payne, Oi of Hexene! street-punk and Holy Wilders, a combination of grunge, stoner and rock from Barcelona.
The music will not end there, because San Son Dyeah will go to Zarautz with the intention of pinching “everything that goes from the chicha to the cod”. The DJ Kortaypega, who will play at home, has the explosive cocktail of kunbia, salsa, electronics and drum & bass ready. The Eibar artist VJ Dodoma will show the art that fills the space with images.
Five years of influencing the world of music from feminism
Seeing that women had little presence at the punk and hardcore concerts, the festival organizer united the desire to influence them. Every year since then, the Feminist Music Revolt has been organized. “We have organized with groups composed mainly of women, bollera and trans, in addition to working on different topics in workshops, round tables and film screenings,” say the organizers.
Through them, they have been getting to know foreign and local referents, as well as trying to create channels for the empowerment of women in areas such as the use of musical instruments, the work of sound technicians, fanzines or DJ work, among others. In parallel, efforts have been made to stimulate debate by placing the distinction between sex and gender in the field of music at the centre.
Because the MEFSST! approach is comprehensive: “We think music is more than just a stage,” they explain. “We didn’t just focus on the presence of women on the stage. We also want to reflect on what happens in other spaces and areas, such as the public, in the technical field, in the organization of concerts, as well as to highlight works that are invisible, such as the preparation of food for groups, cleaning and the reception and care of groups”.
