LAB, ELA and Steilas are undertaking a mobilization and strike dynamic to "reject" the draft Education Act of the Basque Autonomous Community. As part of the dynamic, a rally was held on Monday before the Gasteiz Parliament with the aim of achieving a "public, Euskaldun and its own" educational system. They also encourage participation in the strikes and demonstrations called for on 14 December.
The first draft law was drafted by the education department in September and has been the source of many criticisms. The unions have carried out the preliminary projects and the ten "demands" that must be collected by the law: to focus the public; to deal with segregation and to ensure social cohesion; to establish a framework for publication and general and consensual regulation; to have a proper education law; to have sufficient investment and resources; to put the Basque country at the centre; to establish specific requirements and control mechanisms; to ensure the proper employment and working conditions of all the workers involved. In this sense, the meeting on Monday indicated that "for the possible Education Law to be a law that is built with workers".
The first strike day was held on 30 November, and according to the unions, 60 per cent of the workforce joined. They point out that Monday’s concentration and the strike day of 14 December are also part of the dynamic and ensure that if the second draft being prepared by the Department of Education does not take into account its requests, a new dynamic will be undertaken.
The main mobilization on Wednesday will take place in Vitoria-Gasteiz at noon and demonstrations will take place in the capitals in the afternoon.

The recently passed Education Act is as bad as it is new. Throughout the processing process there has been a broad social sector against the spirit of this law, and this opposition has been greater in the face of its adoption. We want to make public the assessment and reflection... [+]
The new Education Act, which had to be born of consensus, was adopted in anger and disagreement. The lack of agreement is due to the public-private question and linguistic models. A lot of pity.
