The Municipal Council of Hendaia unanimously votes against the extradition of David Pla
- David Pla, accused of belonging to ETA, returned to Hendaia in April 2019, after serving five years in prison in France. In 2010 he resided in Hendaia. The House of the People of Hendaia unanimously regretted France’s decision to be extradited to Spain on 19 December.
Following the decision of the Court of Cassation of the State of France to extradite David Pla, Madrid will consider in the coming days when the procedure for the expulsion of the former prisoner will be carried out. However, the procedure shall not be carried out before the end of the current year.
The Spanish National Court first linked David Pla to ETA in 2008 and requested the extradition of a euro in cash to the French justice. He has spent several years in prison and has been released on the street several times.
Meanwhile, David Pla’s Xantiana Cachenaut defense filed an appeal with the National Court of Cassation. Finally, the Court of Cassation has rejected the appeal lodged by the young woman’s defence.
Pla was released last April. France imposed a ban on living in Basque Country for a year, in its own country, in Hendaia. However, the measure was suspended until the Spanish Euroorder request was resolved.
Last Wednesday, 19 December, the Chamber of Inquiry of the Court of Appeal in Paris agreed to the petition. Xantiana Cachenaute described the decision taken by French Justice as "shameful".
