The Congress of Basque Economists will be held in Vitoria-Gasteiz for the third consecutive year. Previous editions were held in 2019 and 2021 in San Sebastian and Bilbao respectively. The meeting will take place at the headquarters of Euskaltzaindia in Etxezarra de Ariznabarra, financed and organised by the UEU and the Basque College of Economists.
In any case, the academic committee of the congress explained that the UPV/EHU, Mondragon Unibertsitatea and the University of Deusto have offered their "support and support", along with other speakers and institutions. Thus, this year's conference will be "the longest of all times."
Strategic issues such as: "As we are used to, they are not related to cement, but they are related to the main economic resources to be taken into account for the survival of Basque society, in order to have a dignified and better life", explain from the committee formed by Oskar Arantzabal, Baleren Bakaikoa, Ainhoa Saitua and Itziar Navarro.
Food products, water, energy...
One of the issues will be the "quality of food" and opportunities for small producers to deal with multinational companies
We will discuss, among other things, the Basque demography, the challenges posed by the ageing population and the importance of public policies to maintain well-being. They will also address the problem of water: "We know that powerful countries want to control springs and rivers. We are going to leave for the debate the Basques, our agriculture and our industry, so that we have a decent level of well-being with enough fresh water."
Another issue will be the "quality of food" and the opportunities to deal with multinational companies, in part small producers, from initiatives in Iparralde. Furthermore, they will discuss cooperative models of remoteness from oligopolies in energy and climate change, in the latter case they will know a practical model related to the transport sector.
The congress will begin at 9:00 in the morning. In the first part of the day there will be conferences: UPV professors Iñaki Antiedad and Igor Etxabe, BC3 researcher Unai Pascual, member of the Chamber of Agriculture of the Basque Country Iker Elosegi and cooperativist Aritz Achocarro will participate. Workshops will be held in the afternoon to discuss all these issues.
