Housing, petrol and food prices continue to grow

Housing is one of the examples. According to data published by the National Statistical Institute on Thursday, in the second quarter of 2023 housing units increased by 1.5% in Álava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa and 1.1% in Navarra. The price of housing in the CAPV is 3% higher than that of a year ago and in Navarre it is 5.6% higher.
According to data from the real estate agency Indomio, in August in Araba, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa the average price per square meter of housing was €2,830. This means that a housing of 90 square meters costs 254,700 euros. In Navarre it is cheaper, with 1,532 euros per square meter (137,700 euros in 90 square meters), while the rental of the same house would be 923 euros.
San Sebastian is the most expensive capital to live in Euskal Herria. The average is EUR 5,382 per square metre, i.e. a house of 90 square metres would cost EUR 484,380. The rent price would be EUR 1,508. Zarautz is not left behind: the house of this dimension would be on sale for 464,500 euros and rented for 1,281 euros. The purchase of a house of the same size in Bilbao and Getxo exceeds 300,000 euros and the rental exceeds 1,200 euros. In Vitoria-Gasteiz it would be for sale for 237,700 euros and for rent for 1,063 euros. Pamplona is the cheapest capital of Euskal Herria in this sense; buying a house of 90 square meters would cost 219,000 euros and renting 950.
Petrol, over nine consecutive weeks
The prices of diesel and petrol have been the highest brands in recent months. Prices peaked in Spain last July: The price per litre of petrol reached EUR 2,141 and that of diesel 2.1. Although he went down since July, he returns to the ascending path. It has been growing steadily for nine weeks and since the beginning of July petrol has increased by 8.7%, while diesel has increased by 12.8%.
Considering current prices, filling a 55 liter deposit costs an average of EUR 95, EUR 8.3 more than a year ago (20 cents discount). Compared to January data, gasoline is 24.4% more expensive in early September and 10.4% more expensive.
One litre of olive oil to almost ten euros
It also increases the cost of the food base cart. In view of the increase in food prices in recent months, the Spanish Government withdrew VAT from supermarkets at the beginning of the year on certain commodities. Facua, the consumer organization, has analyzed the prices of many of these products, taking foods that have discounted VAT in eight large supermarkets and observing their price changes.
Almost half of the products analysed (48.4%) have become more expensive. According to the law of the beginning of the year, the prices of these products cannot increase unless their costs are increased. Facua recorded a price increase of 471 products, 30% in fruits and vegetables, 20% in olive oil and 13.4% in rice and pasta.
Olive oil is a highly expensive product. For example, in Eroski supermarkets, Coosur Hojiblanca’s oil cost at the beginning of the year EUR 5.34 and at the end of August EUR 9.99, an increase of 84%. According to the study carried out by the OCU consumer association, between the first 12 July and the end of August extra virgin olive oil increased by 15.4%, from an average value of 8.16 euros to 9.42 euros.
