A father tells us that his daughter has participated in these tests and that when she has seen that they are in Spanish she has asked for it to be done in Basque, which he has been denied because they have no version in Basque. Another parent explains that his or her 6-year-old son has also been tested (one of the screenings is done in the first grade of Elementary) and that he or she has had an assistant teacher to help him or her translate her doubts with Spanish. Evidently, it is not the most appropriate way to perform a test, and it can even influence the results, being young Euskaldunes and accustomed to studying in Basque, writing, reading...

Moreover, these tests that the Basque Government has systematized are a clear violation of linguistic rights in the educational world, with minors.

Euskaldunization process, hard and slow

ARGIA spoke with the representative of the Berritzegune who brings the issue and explained that since last year there has been serious work on making the way to translate the tests into Basque, but it is a complex process. One of the main tests that students have to pass, the Wisc program, has already begun to translate to the Basque: first they have had to convince the company that owns the program to be able to translate it (from Berritzegune they say it has not been easy); then, a working group of the UPV is translating content to the Basque language and testing with a sample of Basque students to see profiles. It indicates that they expect it to be translated into Basque by the end of the year.

However, even if Wisc is translated into Basque, our students will have to continue doing other tests in Spanish, as the owners of companies of other tests are not interested in translating the Basque language, they say from Berritzegune, "but we will continue after them trying to change their minds".
