The Real Age of Methuselah
According to the Bible, Methuselah was the oldest character in the Old Testament, since he died at the age of 969. But this age was not unusual at the time, as Adam was 930 and Noah was 950. The theological explanation of this length says that God gave men a long life, but after the Great Flood he decided to punish men for their previous sins, which considerably reduced the life cycle.
The earthly explanation is simpler: Bible translators were wrong and lunar cycles were considered solar cycles. The ages of the Old Testament characters should therefore be divided into 13.5. Therefore, Methuselah was 72 years old when he died. It's no small thing for antiquity.
