The President of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic leaves the Spanish State
- The president of the SEAD and leader of the Frente Polisario, Brahim Ghali, was hospitalized since 18 April in a hospital in Logroño (La Rioja, Spain) to be treated. The National High Court released him on Tuesday morning and, after receiving medical leave, took the plane to Algeria early in the morning at Noain airport.
Brahim Ghali was admitted to the hospital in Logroño on 18 April, and since then the situation has been a source of tension between Morocco and the Spanish State. Morocco’s ambassador to Spain, Karima Benyaich, returned to Rabat, from where he assured that Ghali would not return until he was reprimanded. Morocco threatened to jeopardize relations between the two countries if Madrid allowed Ghali to leave the country as it entered the country.
At the same time, Morocco relaxed for 24 hours the border with the Spanish State in Ceuta and Côte d'Ivoire. In this period, more than 8,000 migrants crossed the border. Of these, about 4,000 were rejected in the act by the Spanish Justice. At least two people died when trying to cross the border. Morocco closed the border again, but maintained the pressure to prosecute Ghali.
The president of the SAED appeared on Tuesday morning before the judge of the National Audience Santiago Pedraz by videoconference from a hospital center in Logroño. In both cases, he has defended his innocence. In addition, it has denounced that the accusations are based on political motives and that its objective is to weaken the credibility of the Saharawi people and the struggle for self-determination. However, as the evidence provided by the allegations is insufficient and Ghali is not charged, Pedraz decided to release him on charges.
The president of SAED left the Spanish state at 01:00 a.m. on an official Algerian plane that departed from Noain airport and was moved to Madrid.
