Baiona celebrates a demonstration in favour of workers' rights
- Convened by the CGT and LAB trade unions, a demonstration is being held in Baiona (Lapurdi). The policies of the French Government, such as workers' rights, social protection measures and the elimination of jobs, are being denounced. The left-wing Abertzale coalition, EH Bai, has also called for the demonstration.
The CGT and LAB trade unions are clear about this: "The health crisis has been the excuse to go against the rights of employees and officials." In this way, the CGT has set up a day of mobilizations to denounce the policy of the French Government, to which LAB has also joined. At the moment, hundreds of people are demonstrating in the streets of Baiona.
The possibility of making the upper limit of the 35-hour working week more flexible, the fact that the holidays were carried out during confinement or, according to the trade unions, some of the measures taken are contrary to workers' rights.
In addition, they believe the situation is going to get worse:The Unedic expects the destruction of 900,000 jobs in the French State by the end of 2020. CGT regrets that both the government and the employers continue to follow the same line: "Nothing is done for a fair distribution of wealth. On the contrary, they still have gifts for companies, especially for large groups that fatten their shareholders. Nothing for the workers and the collective interest."
The EH Bai coalition has also joined the call for the protest day: "During the lockdown, the French Government took a number of measures to deal with the crisis, which have not been expected. However, we find it unacceptable that it has taken advantage of this situation to impose further cuts both in the Labour Code and in social rights."
