About 100 people have concentrated on the Plaza de Oñati to show their solidarity with migrants and claim the motto “No one is illegal”. Members of CEAR Euskadi, as well as members of various agents of Oñati and the immigrants residing in the locality have moved to the site.
On 14 October, 37 immigrants from the south of the Sahara arrived in Oñati. At that time, about 200 people warmly welcomed the refugees.
The immigrant children built a mural through drawings and messages to express in an original way what it means for them to reach Oñati. Then, more people were able to participate. A mural full of everyone’s contributions will be placed in a corner of the square.
A spokesman for the public stressed that in Oñati they are “welcome” and that at some point they have been “all” immigrants. In taking the floor, the refugees reminded all the people who have stayed on the way across the sea.
On the weekend, more activities have also been organized such as a meal and a snack from different countries, a talk from a citizen who emigrated to Oñati, talks from people from different backgrounds and a workshop for the elaboration of the cake from Morocco, among others.
