The largest denge epidemic in history in America
- Denge caused 1,538 deaths and more than three million infections in South and Central America in 2019. With the new year, the figure has only grown in the first two months: 125,000 people have been infected.
The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the Pan American Health Organization, has declared that it is the largest denge epidemic in history. The 125,000 cases of 2020 have occurred in Bolivia, Mexico, Honduras and Paraguay, where the president and his wife have also been infected.
Dengue is transmitted by mosquito bites and the only way to deal with it is to reduce the habitability of mosquitoes. They live in slow waters, especially insects that spread dengue. One of the objectives is to keep these waters clean.
The coronavirus that is spreading around the world has barely reached South America and Central America; for the time being, the only case has appeared in Brazil. The Minister of Health of Argentina, Ginés González García, explained in statements to France24 that the main concern of the country is dengue, not the coronavirus. 2,811 people were infected in Argentina in January 2020.
