The Spanish Government manages to approve two of the three decrees thanks to the abstention of JxC
- The plenary session of the Spanish Congress approved a number of anti-crisis measures, such as reductions in VAT and discounts on transport. The reform of the unemployment allowance is pending, following the vote on Podemos against the Sumar proposal.
The Government of Spain has succeeded in approving two of the three decrees in its hands thanks to the abstention of Junts per Catalunya (JxC). The measures set out in the decrees adopted are transport discounts and VAT reductions. However, the reform of the unemployment benefit and the prioritization of the autonomous labour agreements against the Spanish have yet to be approved. The plenary has been held in the Senate, a reform is being carried out in the Congress of Deputies.
Two blocks have been distinguished among those who have defended the investiture of Pedro Sánchez. Some have voted in favour of all decrees, although they have made some criticism, they point out that measures for citizenship in general are good. Among those who voted in favour are EH Bildu, PNV, ERC, BNG and the Canary Coalitions.
New step in the break between Podemos and Sumar
Juntas per Catalunya (JxC) and Podemos. JxC initially said that he would not vote in favour of the decrees, and he did so: he did not vote in any of the three initiatives at first. However, following the recent negotiations with the Government, he abstained in the second vote on the anti-crisis decree and facilitated its adoption. These agreements include amendments to the public transport discount, reduction of VAT on oil and cancellation of certain legal articles, among others.
On the contrary, although Podemos has opted for anti-crisis measures, it has rejected the reform of the unemployment benefit and has been suspended with the votes of the opposition on the right. This vote marks a new step in the break between Podemos and Sumar, as Yolanda Díaz has led the subsidy proposal.
Measures adopted and rejected
Among the measures adopted are reforms of access to European funds, the benefits of public transport and food, changes in VAT on electricity and gas, increased contributory pensions, increased minimum and non-contributory pensions, extended excise duties and other social measures. On the contrary, the reform of the unemployment benefit and the prioritisation of collective agreements over those signed in Spain have been suspended.
