The Minister of Education of the Basque Government, Begoña Pedrosa, said in a statement released on Thursday that he wants April to be "a month for opportunities to reach an agreement". To this end, it has convened a meeting for Friday between the unions LAB, ELA, CCOO and STEILAS. The government and trade unions will meet after five days of strikes by teachers of public education in Alava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa, which last two weeks called on the government to start a “real negotiation” during the strike that took place on Wednesday.
For the last time, the Lake and the unions met on Tuesday last week, but failed negotiations and the unions insisted on going on strike. The Department of Education was charged with "bad faith." On the other hand, the department headed by Pedrosa denounced that the mobilizations "defend particular interests" and "harm the public education system": "It has been proven that this strike has nothing to do with improving the educational system. Disproportionate economic interests and political goals are intertwined and do not contribute to quality education for students."
In a statement released on Thursday, the Minister of Education highlighted the need for "constructive dialogues" to "address the real needs of the Basque education system". Pedrosa talks about putting them into practice "calmly", however, "putting academic development and the emotional well-being of the students at the center".
Requirements of trade unions
The unions have denounced in the last few days that they have been without updating the agreement for fifteen years, and some of the measures they have enacted are: alleviation of work burdens, establishment of an adequate plan for the rejuvenation of staff, consolidation and guarantee of public employment, recovery of purchasing power, adoption of measures to guarantee occupational health as well as Basque language and education.
I found the old news on the LIGHT ephemeris channel: On April 23, 1918, Irish workers went on a general strike in I. Against forced recruitment for World War II. Thanks to the response of the workers and independence supporters, Britain was forced to retreat.
