About 1,500 students from Iparralde will participate in the 20th edition of "Ten Days Without Screen". Between 23 May and 1 June, participants must abandon all the entertainment related to the screen.

The initiative was created in Québec, Canada, by Jacques Brodeur, a former physical education teacher, in 2003. Since then it has been spreading to centres in different countries of the world and has been gaining strength year after year. In the French state 4,500 students participated in 2018, and the organization expects that this year will be 55,000. In Ipar Euskal Herria, last year sixteen schools joined the activity and this nineteenth year. The San Francisco Javier school, a pioneer in Urruña, will open its activity for another year.

More than four hours a day

According to a study conducted by the French Public Health Agency, in 2015, students aged 6 to 17 spent an average of 4 hours and 11 minutes a day on screens. The initiative aims to reduce screen dependence and promote a healthier life. According to the association "Ten Days of Screen Cancel", exercise contributes to a healthier long-term life, among other things because it allows more physical activity, better sleep, reading or prolonging family conversation times.

For the next ten days a number of activities have been organised for the usual screen hours, most of them for afternoons and weekends. Students will also complete a journal and can add points.
