The Basque Government will grant a subsidy of EUR 0.29 per kilometre to families who have been without a school transport service at the beginning of the course. Calculations shall be made taking into account the distance between each home and the centre.
Education counselor Jokin Bildarratz approved the call at the government meeting on Tuesday, earmarking a million euros. Families must complete a document and submit it to the management of the centre for assistance. The counselor has pointed out that they will receive the money "in a short space of time".
They may apply for grant 3 from Child Education, 4th, 5th, primary, compulsory secondary and basic vocational training.
Over a week without service
At the beginning of the school year, about 7,000 schoolchildren from Álava and Bizkaia have not received the school transportation service. Most routes were untendered early in the year. The government wanted to force transport companies to carry out the same routes as last year, but they planted. The service was reopened on Monday after the opening of the interview between the Department of Education and transport companies.
