A meeting will be held in front of the EITB headquarters in Bilbao to demand the relocation of management positions
- "The Basque EITB, starting with the direction!" Under the slogan, the meeting will take place on Tuesday 25 February, convened by the unions ELA, LAB and ESK of the EITB, as well as the initiative Modify the Script.
In the communiqué signed by the three unions and the initiative, they denounce that the selection processes of the management positions of the EITB are not meeting the "requirement of knowledge of the Basque language" and that three positions of responsibility have been assigned to three people who do not meet this requirement: Directorate of EITB Media, Directorate of Social Media and eitb.eus of EITB, and Commercial Directorate. Moreover, it has been denounced that in the calls that have just come out, the level C1 in Basque is no longer required.
According to them, all this "frustrates" the Basque plan that has been in force at the EITB since 2013 and attacks the objectives of the plan, that is, "to promote the use of the Basque language and to act proactively towards society in the promotion of the Basque language". The current situation has been described as "denounceable and serious", in the face of which the meeting of February 25 has been called, since "a minimum demand" is the mastery of the Basque language by all directors and managers.
Therefore, the agents who have joined the call have demanded that the Directorate of the EITB direct the processes of all the positions where the Basque language requirement has been "compromised". He calls on anyone who is "in favour of guaranteeing basic language rights" to join the rally in front of the EITB headquarters in Bilbao.
