Ernai has made a good assessment of the meeting point of independence from Juventus, held from Thursday to Sunday in Berriozar (Navarre). The youth organization says it has brought together more than 3,000 people in the initiatives it has organized over three days and explains in a statement that after the days they have acquired "the tools to respond from youth to the political cycle that is opening in the Basque Country".
After the reception at noon on Thursday, Ernai demonstrated under the slogan of freedom above obstacles. In fact, as it was International Day of Political Prisoners, a round table was organized on political prisoners in the Basque Country and abroad; the UPN filed a complaint with the National Court, which opened an administrative file. Faced with this, the youth organization denounced in an appearance in Berriozar a week before the meeting that it was "a pure and unacceptable scandal".
Among other things, during the three days of the program, the young attendees have had the opportunity to enjoy lectures on a wide range of topics, as well as workshops of different types: housing, Basque, climate emergency, student struggle and feminism, among others, and have had a leisure offer made up of a musical verse session, drag show, drag self-mutilation workshop, escape room and chess classes. In addition, numerous well-known groups from the Basque music scene have taken the stage: Gozategi, Sukena, Nogen, Toc, Skabidean, Xsakara, Marte Lasarte, Civilito Records, Su Ta Gar, La Furia, Olatz Salvardor and La Fulana.
The Power to Build a Free, Socialist and Feminist Basque Country
The main political event of the conference was held on Saturday evening. Ernai’s spokesman, Amaiur Egurrola, took the floor and proclaimed that there is strength to build “a free, socialist and feminist Basque Country” among Basque youth. Egurrola explained that the current situation is "increasingly unstable" and that the "lack of complicity" of the Basque youth in the wars has not been sufficiently proclaimed: “We must oppose imperialism and capitalist barbarism.”
In addition to the current “perverse” climate, the spokesman for Ernai also spoke about the “process of liberation of nations” in his speech: he emphasized the role played by young people in this process and stressed that only “the movement for the liberation of the nation” can bring some alternative model to the Basque Country. To this end, he recalled several areas of struggle and examples that have taken place in recent years, whether it is the conflict over the Itoto dam or the question of the Lemon nuclear power plant.
The days end with the Patriotic Day
After three days of talks, workshops, concerts, etc., the young people ended the weekend joining the demonstration organized by EH Bila in Pamplona on the occasion of the Patriotic Day. The sovereign coalition says it has gathered 15,000 people in the mobilization, and the Secretary General, Arnaldo Otegi, has also had time to address the young people displaced from Berriozari in his closing speech. Otegi adds value to his work because "there is no process of liberation if young people do not join this path".
