After the City Council of Donostia-San Sebastián lodged a complaint for the eviction of the Guardetxea of the Old Town, the young people of the neighborhood went to the plenary in May to protest. Although they have remained silent and seated as the session progressed, after discussing about three motions, two young people have stood up in the municipal assembly hall to support the Guard.
At that time, the local police officers who were in the main room came to them and tried to arrive to expel them. This has created a confrontation and a struggle between the local police and the youth, who have been dragged out of the plenary hall several times. The atmosphere has deteriorated further on the steps leading up to the municipal assembly hall, as more fighting has arisen. Finally, they were expelled from the Town Hall, and with the help of the City Council, they were denied access.
According to the young people who participated in the protest for the Guard, one of their members has been arrested and three have been identified. In addition, one of the youths has had his cell phone taken away by the local police. For its part, municipal sources report that five people have been charged and four municipal police officers have been injured.

Along with this, the municipal group has been “surprised” by the behavior of the municipal government in the management of the protests: “It is essential that those who have the supreme responsibility of the plenary act with tranquility, respect for the citizens and mediating to avoid unwanted situations. Likewise, we have been surprised by the firm and immediate response of the Local Police, without prior warning from the mayor. I think the answer could have been avoided.”
