Clandestine abortion kills a woman in Argentina
- It is the first death that has occurred through clandestine abortions since the Argentine Senate rejected the law to decriminalize abortion.
The 24-year-old woman from Buenos Aires died on Tuesday of an infection caused by an attempt to terminate her pregnancy in a clandestine manner. The TV channel Telesur reports that the woman tried to abort herself with a stem of parsley, but due to septic shock and infection caused by the attempt, she had to be hospitalized. The woman's state of health was severe and she has died.
On August 8, the Argentine Senate decided to repeal the law to decriminalize abortion and maintain the law that has been in force since 1921. There were 38 senators against decriminalization and 31 supporters. A few days after this decision, the first death caused by the lack of the right to abortion has been granted.
