The group was founded 15 years ago with the aim of exercising and keeping the mind agile by learning Basque dances. At 80 years old, the youngest dancer and 90 adults highlight the physical and mental benefits of dance, which they experience in the first person. Reading the testimonies, we can also confirm that dance is a unique path to empowerment and socialization.
A wide network of surveillance has been established among all the participants. In fact, it is a Basque dance group at its base, but it goes beyond that and has become a space of care and complicity that once a week they make an appointment around the dance. A space to live moments of joy and encouragement, to listen, to enjoy, to be active and to heal wounds.
Dance is much more than moving the body.
They have known the Basque dances closely, as well as learning to dance, but beyond that the group has also been a vehicle to learn about the history of the Basque Country. In short, under the pretext of Basque dance, they have responded to eleven vertices, especially to eliminate the unsought loneliness that is terribly serious in old age.
And the perfect companion path in active aging.
Being an adult is not a hindrance to do things, it is up to us to spread it, it is worth doing things and one of them is the Basque dance. It’s all worth it, it’s therapeutic, it’s helpful, and these women are a clear example of that.
