60 mutilated women with genitals
- In Burkina Faso, children between five and seven years of age have been cut off from their genitals and 30 fathers and mothers have been arrested in connection with these events.
In 1996, genital mutilation was banned, but 60 children have been hospitalized for blood loss and infections. Clitoria and Bagina have cut her lips, respectively.
The parents of the detainees will only be sentenced to six months to three years ' imprisonment.
According to UNICEF, 75 per cent of women have been mutilated in the history of Burkina Faso and only 9 per cent are in favour of this practice.
