Six citizens were killed by the civil guard in San Sebastian after shooting at an improvised demonstration. It was Sunday and on the Boulevard Kiosk was the concert of the Municipal Band.
The kalapita started when a public group asked for the song Gernikako Arbola. The City had the full song so as not to offend the Spanish monarchs in the city. The tension was rising and when young people exploded a pair of firecrackers began the changes in the concert.
At the end of the meeting, the President of the Spanish Government, Sagasta, went to the London Hotel to protest “outlaws” and “death for Sagasta”. People started throwing stones at the hotel and when the Civil Guard arrived, they started shooting the protesters live. Three people died there and another three days later from injuries.
It's known as the night of the apple shots. Nationalism was about to come.
