They recognized the right of women to vote in the French State. Still in full Nazi occupation, the provisional government of Charles De Gaulle took the decision in Algiers. In 1848 he accepted universal male suffrage, recognizing that of women, the last in Europe. In the April 1945 municipal elections women took part for the first time in the elections, and in October 1945 the elected women would be 33. The measure was not applied in all the colonies.
