A Palestinian state, two states or none. These are some of the solutions that are represented when referring to the conflict in Palestine. The State of Palestine may consist of the current Gaza and the West Bank, or it may be just Area A of the West Bank – an area controlled by the Palestinian Authority – which occupies an area of 18 per cent of the Palestinian territory, or the only state that houses Palestinians and Israelis. Many other forms can be woven, but last week the Israeli Parliament said no, that the Palestinians have no right to have a state, not even an option. Crude realism, it does not mix complicity with the United States or the European Union.
It is not new, of course, it is a strategy that Zionism has been working on since 1948 and that has been increasingly projected in Israeli society: Eretz Israel or Greater Israel, the Jewish State of the Jordan River to the Mediterranean, or more, the vision modernized in 2018 by Knesset – the Parliament of Israel – through the Basic Law of Israel. And in 2022, the main objective of the coalition government of Benjamin Netanyahu was established, which is materializing day by day, both with the destruction of Gaza and with the continued deepening of the colonization of the West Bank.
From 7 October to the present, there are countless clear and tough statements by Members, members of government or intellectuals in favour of a new nakba that will facilitate Eretz Israel. Perhaps one of the most extreme was that Amichai Eliyahu, Minister of Honduras and Jerusalem Affairs, said on the radio: I saw it as an opportunity to launch a nuclear bomb in the Gaza Strip. The Minister of Agriculture and former head of the Israeli secret service, Avi Dichter, also spoke with total transparency: “In Gaza we are starting the nakba: Gaza nakba 2023. This is how it will end.” And there is no intention in the international community at the moment to curb this new mother-of-pearl.
In an interesting interview at Jewish Current, Palestinian thinker Rabea Eghbariah notes that the Palestinians have words to describe the foundational violence used by Zionism in 1948, including iqtila (uproar), tahjeer (displacement), or tashrid (expulsion), and that the one that collects them is nakba. When we hear the "Holocaust", Nazi Germany comes to the forefront and we associate it with the "apartheid" of South Africa. Well, for Eghbariah, nakba is a word that describes the process of oppression of the Palestinians since the creation of the State of Israel, which increasingly needs less translations, because it expresses itself. Nakba, for Zionism, Eretz is the road to Israel, for the Palestinians the destruction of the Palestinian people. “And where are we today?” asks Eghbariha: “They have not destroyed us. We live in that space between destruction and liberation.”

“Do you want some news? Take a look at how nice the neighborhood is leaving us,” my friend told me as soon as we met the kids in the park in the afternoon, pointing their fingers at some symbols. The weekend is the 21st Medieval Fair in the Old Town, where the workers have... [+]
