Beyond reproach

“That we have total freedom to choose what we want: this idea is not right and has generated a lot of suffering. (…) Our sexual orientation is not chosen, but is programmed from the uterus. (…) Pederastia is also programmed at an early stage of brain development” (480. 71 and sec. ).
Knowing that biological, genetic, neurological factors influence human behavior, childhood education and experience, the socio-economic environment... I am much more interested in “understanding” the motives that the passionate condemnation, for example: Why do some men feel the sexual attraction to children, and why do some more and others more easily control this trend? Why are men stronger than women, to the point of killing their children out of hatred for their mother? Etc. To answer these questions “because they are very evil and malignant” I am not satisfied, I want to know why we are “evil and evil”. But when our emotions, interests or prejudices are at stake, it is not acceptable to start questioning: that is to launder crime or crime, weakness and complicity, an offense for the victims.
Until recently, we haven't known anything about how our brain works. Now neuroscience is making big discoveries about human behavior.
“Prisons are full of people with psychiatric or neurological diseases” (228. 71 and sec. ). “Our genetic heritage can greatly influence our aggressive and criminal behavior,” and when it comes to adolescents, the neurologist says: “These criminals have often been found to have psychiatric problems; in the case of boys in prison, the proportion reaches up to 90%” (224). 71 and sec. ).
Until recently, we haven't known anything about how our brain works. Now neuroscience is making big discoveries about human behavior, discoveries that are facing great challenges for our teaching system, for morals, for the legal and criminal system.
I recommend you read the book of the Dutch neurologist Dick Swaab: We are our brain (Nous sommes notre beau). It has sparked great discussions, but I believe that anyone who disagrees should not respond from religion, morality, philosophy or ideology, but from their field of research. And seeing more and more scientists in the same line -- interesting among us, Gurutz Linazasoro -- we shouldn't start a sterile fight against those discoveries, as so many times in history. They can give us important keys to building healthier heads and a healthier society!
