Abdallah, sentenced to life imprisonment by the Paris anti-terrorist tribunal in 1987, extended the security period in 1999 and has since been entitled to parole. However, the authorities have repeatedly denied him the dismissal, on the pretext of the legislation adopted in recent times by then Minister Rachida Dati. What is happening with Abdallah is in part similar to what happened with the famous Parot doctrine in Spain.
Georges Ibrahim Abdallah was born in 1951 in northern Lebanon, within a Christian family. He entered the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (FPLP) very young. In 1982, Israel invaded Lebanon and caused 25,000 deaths in the “Peace in Galilee” operation, 45,000 wounded, destruction of Beirut, massacres in the Sabra and Xatila refugee camps, etc. The Palestinian and Lebanese guerrillas tried to extend the response to the whole world. In the case of France, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Lebanon (FARL in French) committed two very special killings: Charles Ray, US military officer at the French Embassy and Yakov Barsimantov, French head of the Israeli secret services, the so-called Mossad. As an illustrative curiosity, in January 2012, Deputy Yves Bonnet, who ran the secret services of DST when he was dragged, called for the release of Abdallah.
The name of Abdallah reminds the people of France of the attacks in Paris that year. He was dragged by French policemen in 1984, after a long and controversial arrest. In the communiqué of the conveners of the Baiona demonstration it can be read that the arrest and conviction of Abdallah are related to the manipulation of French secret services. His lawyer, Jacques Vergès, has long complained that he is still in prison under pressure from the US Government.
