Ten kilometres from Bilbao, Leioa extends from Cecilia to the estuary of Ibaizabal. We will arrive easily, since the village is well connected, by metro, bus, road. Although the cultural offer of the University and the City Council are the main current symbols of the city, the industry and the farms remain there, so that no one can forget what they are also components of the Leioa personality. Yesterday and today converge in Leioa and its natural network wants to be a witness to it. In this way, the City Council attaches fundamental importance to the preservation of the natural good. There are about twenty municipal gardeners, under the direction of Mikel Ibarrondo, responsible for preserving, increasing and bringing this treasure to the public, without forgetting to highlight the peculiarities of Leioa. In this regard, bicycle, walking and car routes are currently being prepared to publicize these assets. The style of the gardens, parks and roundabouts (French, Japanese, romantic) and what they want to reflect are some of the indications that we will have at our disposal.

Hotels in Parques

As we said before, we have nineteen parks in Leioa, of different types. Artatza and Pinosolo belong to the times of powerful families. These are man-made parks with a special design. Pinosolo, for example, has not only trees and shrubs of various types, but also other curiosities such as roses, lagoons... Although they are located a few meters from the Avanzada road that connects Bilbao with the Uribe Kosta, they are ideal places to enjoy the silence. These are both and the largest parks in the Arboretum Leioa... The latter has 1,700 trees of type 130 on nineteen hectares. They are divided into three zones: one with trees native to the Basque Country; the second with trees from Asian regions with a climate like ours; and the third zone is made up of those with productive use. In Arboretum we will also find the square of the heliometer, the amphitheater and the exhibition space.


Mendibile and Sarriena are new parks in the neighborhoods. The first one is next to the palace that currently houses the Txakoli Museum and gives its name to the park. Mendibile is made up of fruit trees such as mulberries, cherry trees, chestnut trees or apple trees. It is located in the vicinity of the Sarriena football stadium and has 7,000 square meters of Horoscope Park. The 81 trees of type 21 that are there join the Celtic horoscope. Next to each type of tree there is a plaque that informs us: the name of the tree in Latin, Basque and Spanish; the corresponding dates of birth, and the nature and trends of those born on the same date. This park has a secret that visitors must discover, which has to do with life. Find out if you can!

We have other neighborhood parks located in the green network of Sagarrena, Negurigane, San Bartolomé, Ugarteondo, Kurkudi, Tuñón de Lara, Elexalde, Aldapa, Ondiz and Burdione.

The roundabouts

Roundabouts that only serve to lighten traffic in other places have been turned into art by Leioa florists, following a color-tinted design. As we have said below, the works of gardeners are based on the peculiarities of Leioa, its personality. A roundabout will remind us of the old golf; in another, for example, we will find the anthem of Leioa with the score.
