Wyomin governor prohibits abortion pills, the first country in the United States
- The governor of the American state of Wyoming, Mark Gordon, has passed a law to ban abortion pills and women who use them will be sentenced to imprisonment and a fine. To impose the ban, Gordon argues that "everyone should be treated with dignity and compassion". Meanwhile, a Texas conservative federal judge is studying the resort to ban the abortion pill across the United States.
Governor Mark Gordon prohibits the use of the abortion pill in Wyoming, in the West of the United States. It is the first state to establish a specific rule to ban this medicine. Women using them will have a prison sentence of up to six months and a fine of approximately EUR 8,400.
Republican policy has also presented a bill that aims to reduce most termination of pregnancy unless there is a risk of rape, incest or maternal life. "I believe that life is sacred and that all people should be treated, not those born, with dignity and piety," said the governor, as explained by the new agency Agence France-Presse.
The law establishes the veto to to order, give, distribute, sell or use any abortion pill. However, the law excludes the use of the morning-after pill, as it is used before confirming pregnancy.
Gordon's decision comes when he studies the appeal to ban nationwide the mifepristone pill to abort a Texas conservative federal judge. Since last June the Supreme Court annulled the constitutional right to abortion, fifteen conservative states have banned all kinds of abortions.
