The Diputación declares that it has "no responsibility" for the working conditions of the works of San Mamés
- At the meeting of the Finance Committee of the General Assembly of Bizkaia held on July 13, EH Bila asked the PNV to explain the conditions of the workers who work in the extension of the roof of San Mamés. The unions ELA and LAB denounced the irregularities.
José María Iruarrizaga, Member of the Board of the PNV, replied that the Provincial Council “has no responsibility for these works, it is the Athletic Club that has taken over the works”. He added that the labour inspector had been present and that, contrary to what the trade unions had said, there were no irregularities.
According to ELA and LAB, workers working on the extension of the stadium’s roof work from Monday to Saturday, during an 11-hour work day, and on Sundays during an eight-hour work day.
Igor Isuskiza, member of the Assembly of the EH, reminded the Provincial Council of the possibility of supervising “any work done in the stadium” and accused him of having rejected his responsibility in this matter.
In the financing of San Mames Barria, the Basque Government, the Provincial Council of Bizkaia and Kutxabank contributed 50 million of the 211 million euros, equal to Athletic. The extension of the roof, however, has been paid by the group itself – about 10 million – and the work was assigned to the company Inbisa in April.
